SERVICES AND TRAINING

The American Red Cross Health and Safety Services helps save lives and strengthen communities. Last year, approximately 12 million Americans enrolled in lifesaving Red Cross courses. Currently 28% of American Red Cross registered volunteers help sustain and deliver training in:
First Aid/CPR/AED (with Automatic External Defibrillation "AED" information and skills)
Aquatics (Lifeguarding, Water Safety)
Caregiving (Babysitter's Training, Family Caregiving)
HIV/AIDS Education (Multi-Cultural, Culturally Specific African-American and Hispanic, Workplace)

ABOUT US

MISSION STATEMENT
The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers, guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.

 

NORTH CASCADES CHAPTER INCLUDES
all of Okanogan County and the Colville Reservation, plus parts of Douglas (Bridgeport & Mansfield) and Grant (Coulee Dam, Grand Coulee, and Electric City) Counties.

VOLUNTEER!

Every day, the American Red Cross helps people in emergencies-- whether it's half a million disaster victims or one sick child who needs blood. We need your help-- Right now.
Think you're too busy? We can work with you to provide rewarding experiences, whatever your schedule.
Don't believe you have any skills to offer? You'd be surprised by the skills and talents we need. And, if you need training, we'll provide it.

DISASTER SERVICES: Respond to single-family fires, set up and help operate shelters, provide food and water to firefighters and search and rescue workers. You can also volunteer for national disaster relief!

BLOOD SERVICES: Set up and take down donor site; greet, escort and monitor donors.

BOARD MEMBER: Be part of a team that helps make decisions and provides direction for the local chapter.

HUMAN RESOURCES: Oversees and manages the volunteer staff, nominates board members, performs evaluations for board members and Chapter staff, awards recognition of volunteers and paid staff.

HEALTH & SAFETY: Teach First Aid and CPR; HIV/AIDS Education; Babysitter’s Training; Water Safety (children’s learn to swim program) or Lifeguarding, to your community and help save lives.

YOUTH SERVICES: Be a member of the Red Cross youth group, which provides service to your community and have fun all at the same time. You can be a leader that gives positive reinforcement and guidance to the youth.

PUBLIC RELATIONS: Publishes the annual report and newsletters, writes articles and news releases for the media.

OFFICE ASSISTANT: Help copy, sort & staple materials, stamp brochures, call donors to thank them for donations to name a few.

FUNDRAISING: Help plan & organize fundraising events.

FAIRS, PARADES & STAMPEDE: We need people to participate in these events. They are only once a year for a day or weekend.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THE RED CROSS

Q: Is the Red Cross funded by the Government?

A: No! The only government funding comes from special grants.


Q: Does the National Red Cross financially support our local Chapter?

A: No! National Red Cross only provides support during extreme disasters.


Q: If I make a donation to the local Chapter, where does it go?

A: All local designated donations stay in the local chapter.


Q: Does the North Cascades Chapter receives funds from United Way?

A: Unless an agency or business designates our local chapter, we do not receive United Way funds.


Q: Does the Red Cross charge for disaster assistance?

A: No! All disaster assistance is free, paid for by donations from the residents in our Chapter.

 

In addition to responding to emergencies, we provide training in disaster preparedness, disaster response, first aid and CPR, and provide emergency communications for military members and their families.

BIOMEDICAL SERVICES

The American Red Cross provides for collection, testing and distribution for approximately 45% of the nation's blood supply.
Every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs a blood transfusion.
Only 5% of those who are eligible donate blood.
